The Johnson City Public Library Computer Center, located on the second floor of the library, contains thirty computers available for patrons aged 13 years and older who have a library card. Computers can be accessed for 90 minutes per day during library open hours. Patrons under the age of 13 and their parents can access computers in the Youth Services area on the first floor of the library.
Accessing the Computers
The library computers cannot be reserved and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
To log in to the computers, Johnson City Public Library patrons use their library card as their user ID and their last name, all lower-case, as their password. If you do not have a JCPL library card but you live in the area, bring one form of current photo identification(e.g. your driver’s license) and another form of identity verification with your current address (e.g. a recent piece of mail) to the Circulation Desk to get a library card. If you are only visiting the area for a short period of time, you can purchase a Computer Center card at the Information Desk that is good for 30 days. A Computer Center card costs $1.00 and you must provide current photo identification.
The Computer Center is a quiet space for patrons to work, so we ask that you silence your cell phone and keep conversation to a minimum. If you need to listen to something on the computer, please bring a pair of head phones with you to the Computer Center. While the library does not provide head phones for patrons to borrow, you can purchase a pair of head phones at the Information Desk for $3.00. No food or drinks are allowed at the computer stations. Anyone using the Johnson City Public Library’s computers must abide by all library policies including the Internet Access Policy. Read the library’s Guide to Internet and Computer Use for more information regarding access to library computer facilities.

Note: For your privacy and security, when you log off of a library computer any documents or files you saved on the computer will be lost. If you want to save files for later use, e-mail the files to yourself or bring a USB flash drive (also called a thumb drive or zip drive) to store them. If you do not have a USB drive, you can purchase a 1 GB USB drive for $5.00 or a 4 GB USB drive for $7.50 at the Information Desk.
Printing, Scanning, and Faxing
The Computer Center has printing facilities available to the public. Printing on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper in black-and-white costs $0.15 per page and printing in color costs $0.50 per page. If you require any assistance in the printing process, please ask a library staff member at the Help Desk or the Information Desk.
Flatbed scanners are available for patrons to borrow and use at Computer Center terminals. Ask at the Information Desk for access and assistance with the scanners.
The Johnson City Public Library offers self-service faxing for the public in the second floor Computer Center. Patrons can send up to 15 pages at $1.75 for the first page and $1 for each additional page for faxes sent within the US, Canada, or the Caribbean.
